The circle of life...

We have a Daphne in our front garden - and if you haven’t got a Daphne, then you are most definitely missing out. It’s a plant by the way, not a girl or a lady loitering - and it happens to the most pungent (fragrant) plant on earth. So pungent in fact (smelly) that ours can be savoured even before rounding the corner of our road. People passing our house remark on it. From my desk, I enjoy watching people passing by and reacting to it. Some people even stop and try to discern which plant is responsible for such glory. My Daphne makes people happy. And so why then does it make me sad? Because its fragrance only lasts for 10 days or so. Too fleeting for sure and also because it marks another year that has passed - in its life and mine and of my kids…  So I enjoy the smell but it punctuates my life and this makes me sad. The trick being to savour each moment and enjoy each day. But old dogs and new tricks I say - and why I am calling for our horticulturists to come up with a year round flowering Daphne…
